Part 7: Thinking and formulating

Abstract

Thinking and formulating are production processes which are especially complex in their cortical representation and function. Production processes are also delt with in other parts of the project "`Cortical Linguistics"' but there are characteristics of thinking and formulating, requiring an additional and careful treatment. Psychology and linguistics don't yet provide fully acceptable theoretic clarifications.

Some of the phenomena to explain in the two fields are comparable. Differences exist nevertheless, resulting from the fact that thinking is not a process involving essentially linguistc mechanisms. On the other hand it's true that formulation processes are connected with thinking, but their basis is nevertheless different, resulting from the special chraracteristics of the linguistic competence.
